Unit 1
While perusing the Absolute Beginners Section of the Ubuntu forums today, I came across a thread titled xubuntu? ubuntu? The member was asking about the differences between Xubuntu and Ubuntu. The question raised was what is the difference between the two systems, if any. It was interesting to learn that they are both Linux operating systems (O.S.) that have different file managers, web browsers, and office applications. Someone on the thread mentioned a third O.S. called Kubuntu. Both Xubuntu and Kubuntu are faster than Ubuntu. Xubuntu takes up less memory than Ubuntu but Kubuntu, which is faster than the other two systems, takes up more RAM. It seems to be a toss up as to which Linux O.S. to install. It all comes down to hardware capabilities and personal preference.
